ChatGPT SEO Optimization Checklist for B2B Sites

ChatGPT SEO optimization is not a separate discipline you bolt onto your existing program. It is the same crawlable, quotable, well-structured website you already want, judged by a different reader. That reader does not click a blue link. It decides whether your page is worth naming in an answer.

A page gets cited when an engine can extract a clean, self-contained answer from it. That is the test. Run these in order.

  1. Lead with a definition, not a sales pitch. The first 60 words should state plainly what the thing is. "A hydraulic winch is defined as..." beats three sentences about your commitment to quality.
  2. Answer one query per section. If a section tries to cover pricing, delivery and warranty at once, no engine can lift a clean answer from it.
  3. Write self-contained paragraphs of 60+ words. A paragraph that only makes sense after reading the two above it is hard to quote. Give each key paragraph a complete thought.
  4. Use real headings, not styled divs. H2 and H3 tags tell a parser where a topic starts. Bold text does not.
  5. Put specifications in a table. Comparison tables survive extraction better than prose. Load capacity, tolerance, voltage, whatever your buyer compares.
  6. Add Schema markup. Schema.org defines the vocabulary; Product, FAQPage and Organization markup help engines understand what your page is. It is not a ranking trick, it is a clarity signal.
  7. Keep LCP at or under 2.5 seconds. A slow page may not finish rendering before the retrieval window closes.
  8. Show a real author and a real update date. EEAT signals are not decoration. An engine deciding between two similar pages picks the one with visible provenance.

Site-level checklist: the signals that surround the page

Pages do not get cited in isolation. The engine also weighs what surrounds them, and this is where most B2B sites quietly fail.

Crawlability and structure

Google Search Central documentation is blunt about this: if Googlebot cannot crawl it, it will not be indexed, and if it is not indexed, no AI engine that leans on search infrastructure will find it either. Check robots.txt, check that your category pages are not orphaned, check that internal links actually point somewhere useful.
